Many people have questions about the status of the dock.
This update may answer some of them. When we started re-wrapping
the dock pilings in September, we discovered large holes
in several pilings. The holes are the work of worms and
they have compromised the structural integrity of the dock.
As many as 10 pilings have to be replaced.
The Board has hired a structural engineer to analyze the
entire dock and to draw plans for the necessary repairs.
That work is underway. As part of the repair project, we
plan to install a new hoist system. The existing hoist is
contributing to part of the problem as it has placed considerable
stress on some of the pilings. We will have a proposal for
the new hoist system soon.
The dock repair and the new hoist system is a major project
that will tax the club’s monetary resources. That
is why the club recently sent you a letter soliciting your
tax deductible contributions to the Building Fund to help
pay for the repair costs.
We have been in contact with BCDC as that agency will have
to approve the repairs. We don’t anticipate any approval
problems, but can’t apply for a permit
until we have a set of plans for the pier repairs and the
hoist system. When we get the hoist proposal and complete
the structural engineering work(probably by early to mid
January), we will have a better handle on the total cost
and the timetable for completing the work. We will keep
you posted as new information is available.
