Lake Merced

The Dolphin Club maintains a boathouse on beautiful Lake Merced in San Francisco, which is open to all members. There are about a dozen boats available for members' use, from training singles, that can be rowed easily by novices, on
up to Pocock fiberglass single racing shells

Early Morning Row on Lake Merced

The camaraderie experienced at 502 Jefferson Street also prevails at Lake Merced. A regular group typically rows at 6:00 am several weekdays, with a larger group on weekend mornings at 8:00 am.

Although there are few formal regattas, informal racing can occur any time two boats get together on the water. While several members out at Lake Merced have received national as well as international recognition, most members row for recreational purposes. The experience of sitting two inches off the water and moving a boat along at 4-5 knots at sunrise, is inspirational.

The Lake Merced boathouse is owned by the city of San Francisco and leased to the club.
