Sign up sheets have been posted for the Doc Howard Over 45 Gashouse Cove Swim and the Under 45 Cove Swims on Saturday July 7.  It’s a late afternoon swim – There will be a light dinner afterwards.

Gashouse Cove is considered a qualifying swim for Alcatraz and Golden Gate.  It’s also a great opportunity for under 45’s to get another help before Alcatraz and Golden Gate.

Here is how the timing looks for the swims:

Over 45 Gas House Cove:

3:30-4:15 pm                   Sign In

Under 45 – Three Possible Courses: Cove (1 mile), Flag (1/2 mile) or Eppleton Hall (¼ mile)

We always have ‘help’ opportunities – You will need 3 helps to qualify for the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz swims – So get them checked off early!

Introduction to Bay Swimming

For new swimmers and anyone who wants to brush up or learn more, please join us Saturday, August 11 and Saturday October 20 at 8:30am for an Intro to Bay Swimming class.

Details:

This 2-3 hour session includes:

A ~1-hour chat with Q & A covering:

the geography of our cove
swimming out in the Bay
basic info about tides and currents
our non-human friends in the water
swimming in cold water and how to avoid hypothermia

. . . and lots more.

Classroom time will be followed by an optional group swim.

Please note that participants must be 18 or older and able to comfortably swim 400 yards.
Class size limited to 12 people – RSVP required
Please bring your own suit, towel, cap, and goggles.

Coghlan Beach Swim results

June 24, 2018

The rescheduled Coghlan Beach swim featured warmer water, some flood current pushing people along and a generally nice day in and near the Bay.  It was swum as a fun swim, with no record of times or places, and all swimmers were recorded as having a qualifying swim for Alcatraz and the Golden Gate swims.

2018 Pride Swim results

June 9, 2018

The annual Pride Swim was hosted by the Dolphin Club for both the DC and South End Rowing Club.  There were some costumes, some silliness, and just plain fun, with a terrific trinket and great food afterwards.  Results for finish order and times were not captured.  All DC swimmers, though, received a qualifying swim toward the Golden Gate and Alcatraz swims.  Thanks to our SERC neighbors for their swimming, piloting and helping.
